Established in 1895, Grayslake is located in central Lake County, approximately 40 miles north of the Chicago business “Loop” and 14 miles west of Lake Michigan. Neighboring communities include Libertyville and Mundelein to the southeast, Gurnee to the east, Lindenhurst to the north, and Round Lake and Round Lake Beach to the west.
The 78- acre “Gray’s Lake” is located within the corporate boundaries of the Village. Grayslake’s corporate boundaries encompass approximately 12 square miles of land that consists of commercial, residential, and community development. The Village also has several industrial/office parks and new commercial developments within its borders. Some of these developments include: Center Street Square, Washington Square, the Mapleview Shopping complex, which includes the Jewel/Osco, the Atkinson Industrial Park, Atkinson Center, and the Route 83 Business Center.
The historical Grayslake's Village Center is located in the heart of the Village, and includes: the historic downtown with its antique lighting, historic storefronts with varying architectural styles, and small businesses with a customer friendly atmosphere. Grayslake Village is also the proud home of the Lake County Fairgrounds, which hosts one of the most popular annual county fairs in Illinois. The Lake County Fair and various events held annually at the fairgrounds throughout the year draw more than 500,000 people to Grayslake from all over the Midwest. Events include antiques and collectibles shows, computer shows, antique cars and swap meets.
